Introduction

About Psychotherapy, Toronto and GTA

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a learning process where people discover important aspects of themselves and their behaviour. They learn how to overcome difficulties, grow personally, and engage in a process of change to improve themselves and their circumstances. It involves having someone to talk with and learning techniques to cope more effectively with problems.

Therapy involves an initial assessment in order to identify the underlying issues and difficulties. The therapist will work with the client to set treatment goals and determine what help the person requires in order to resolve the issues at hand.

Who Can Benefit?

Our services are for adults experiencing problems they cannot resolve on their own and need help to find solutions in order to feel better. This includes individuals who are:

  • Sad, depressed, worried, shy, or just stressed out;
  • Coping with a chronic illness;
  • Dealing with family changes such as separation and divorce;
  • Coping with traumatic events;
  • In need of anger management;
  • In need of improving self-esteem and confidence.

How Private Is It?

We respect the privacy of our clients and we keep things you discuss confidential. All infiormation discussed in therapy is confidential unless you give permission for us to disclose information on your behalf. The only exception is if we believe our clients may harm themselves or others or in cases of child abuse.

If you are concerned about your privacy and confidentiality, please feel free to discuss your concerns with us over the phone or during your first appointment. It is imperative that you trust your therapist, so that you can talk openly about your situation.

Does It Mean I’m Crazy?

No. In fact, it takes a courageous, open, and intelligent person to acknowledge when they have problems that they do not know how to resolve on their own and to seek help. Just like you would see a family doctor when you have physical problems, people see their psychologist to help them with their emotional problems.
